Mace is the outer covering of the Nutmeg seed. It has a similar flavor to Nutmeg, but is more subtle and less intense. Mace is a spice derived from the dried aril, the lacy covering of the nutmeg fruit produced by the tropical evergreen tree Myristica fragrans. Exhibiting a subtly warm taste, mace also emanates a fragrance reminiscent of nutmeg.
